A Mass for the City of Arras, National Theatre in Warsaw
Aula Artis, November 19, 2018
A story set in the Middle Ages, yet painfully resonant today. In the testimony of a witness from the city of Arras, the truth about human nature, submission to violence, and the longing for freedom comes to light.
On November 19, 2018, Aula Artis in Poznań hosted a performance that depicted how, in the face of plague, the city descended into chaos and evil began to permeate the community — quietly, imperceptibly, until it became the new norm. It was not only a study of growing terror but also a warning against the power of collective unanimity and the mechanisms of authority that turn the individual into the guilty.
In the leading role, Janusz Gajos delivered a masterful portrait of a man of our times.
