RAGTIME
Their shared fascination with ragtime became the starting point for creating something entirely new. On stage, classical inspirations met contemporary sensibility. Not with nostalgia, but with energy and humour. The concert unfolded as a musical dialogue with the past, in which every chord sounded fresh and alive.
On October 30, 2024, at Aula Artis in Poznań, pianist Marcin Masecki and drummer-composer Jerzy Rogiewicz performed an original program rooted in classic ragtime. The audience heard pieces that, though inspired by music over a century old, resonated with freshness, rhythm, and unpredictability. The artists did not recreate history but reinterpreted it on their own terms, transforming ragtime into a vibrant, contemporary form of musical expression.
Masecki, known for his eclectic approach and masterful balance between jazz, classical, and avant-garde, together with Rogiewicz — a percussionist, composer, and creator with equally wide horizons — crafted a sonic spectacle where tradition gained a new pulse. Their joint experience includes the project Ragtajmy, the Jazz Trio, and Jazz Band Młynarski–Masecki. The Poznań concert felt like a natural continuation of their musical language.
The evening at Aula Artis was both a tribute to ragtime and an invitation to listen with openness, beyond boundaries of style and emotion. It showed how classical forms can live here and now when approached with passion, knowledge, and freedom.
