Area of Ephemeral Images, 2009
Poznań, Kaponiera Roundabout
Jan Berdyszak’s Area of Ephemeral Images is a spatial installation located on Święty Marcin Street, near the Kaponiera roundabout. Created in 2009, the work consists of seven metal frames holding rectangular panes of glass and mirrors of varying sizes, levels of transparency, and angles of inclination.
The piece refers to the artist’s own concept of “ephemeral photography” — the reflection of everyday urban surroundings in constantly changing forms. Its defining feature is impermanence: every glance, every time of day, every shift of light produces a unique, unrepeatable image.
Rather than presenting a fixed form, the installation creates a situation — a dynamic space of visual events where chance and the environment become co-creators. Its perception is shaped by everything: the movement of vehicles, the flow of passersby, changing weather conditions. Area of Ephemeral Images
The work was created in cooperation with the Wielkopolska Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
