In Art, Dreams Become Reality, 2021
Katarzyna Kozyra’s project In Art, Dreams Become Reality culminates in the 2021 film Summer Tale. The work marks both the conclusion of a long-term cycle and the starting point for a new artistic venture.
At the center of the project are two figures: Berlin drag queen Gloria Viagra and Maestro, an opera singing teacher. Together with them, Kozyra has, for years, challenged the binary division of gender and confronted audiences with stereotypical perceptions of the body and identity.
The project encompasses not only the film but also a series of original posters and actions in public space. One of these was a large-scale installation on the façade of Poznań’s Bałtyk office building — a print of a film still showing the artist trapped in the role of a feminine, fairy-tale character.
The work combines personal commentary with a performative gesture of presence in the urban space, balancing on the boundary between fiction and autobiography.
The work was created in cooperation with the Wielkopolska Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
