Little Greg walks through the village…

Galeria Artis, Poznań

The exhibition title, seemingly light and childlike, introduces the viewer to a realm of paradox in which innocence intertwines with what is unsettling and provocative. The exhibition speaks of an attempt to understand a changing, unstable world, as well as of a conscious departure from conventions before they become a limitation.

Mariusz Kruk — artist, writer, and philosopher — has for over 40 years been creating a world at the intersection of aesthetics and existential unease, where everyday life acquires new, often provocative meanings.

The exhibition “Little Greg Walks Through the Village…” presents a cross-sectional selection of works from four decades of his artistic practice: paintings, works on paper, objects, and assemblages come together to form a narrative about paradox, repetition, and inattentive existence.

The exhibition’s title directly references a poem by Julian Tuwim, in which the figure of Little Greg functions as a symbol of unreflective persistence and repetition. The protagonist, absorbed in the automatism of everyday gestures, moves forward without awareness of the consequences of his actions. His inattentiveness and lack of critical reflection become a metaphor for processes that—though seemingly insignificant—can lead to irreversible changes.
